Selling Out the Budokan in Japan

In 1977, WKA entered Japan and sold out the famous Budokan in Tokyo. Benny Urquidez defended his title in front of a massive crowd, proving the popularity of kickboxing in the region.

This event was important because it showed that WKA could succeed internationally and attract major audiences outside the United States.

The Budokan event became one of the early highlights in WKA history and helped strengthen the organization’s presence in Asia.
